Studiomama Collection for Point Two Five
Other Half
I’ve been making wire sculptures for my partner Nina since we first met. Usually on the spur of the moment – Valentine’s Day or the night before her birthday. As I shaped the wire a heart shape would sometimes emerge and morph into a character.
Surprise, delight and humour
Once, playing with wire and a small round mirror I discovered that by shaping a half-heart and attaching it to the mirror it created the illusion of a full heart. By adding a simple stand, we turned it into a tabletop object. This kind of instinctive, hands-on making has always been central to Studiomama’s approach.
When Paddy Ben, the founder of Point Two Five, invited us to explore ideas for jewellery – a natural evolution of those initial gestures became a collection – a ring, pendant and a bracelet.
Recurring themes in our work are surprise, delight, and humour. My measure of success was always simple: could I make Nina smile? It feels natural that these private gestures of affection have now become jewellery. We’re grateful to Paddy for seeing the charm in these objects and help bring the Other Half collection to life.
